For Vietnamese insurance leader Thao Tran, there’s no doubt her insurance career is challenging, but it’s also inspiring, as it defines her life’s purpose. She says Vietnamese women are traditionally strong and resilient, so they can be successful in insurance leadership positions if they have passion, determination and a can-do spirit.

Thao Tran, Prudential Vietnam Assurance Senior Vice President (SVP), Chief Strategy and Business Development Officer, believes her success comes down to her high-quality education and determination.

Born and raised in Hanoi to an intellectual family, Tran says she feels lucky her parents really cared about their children’s education.

PUTTING EDUCATION FIRST

Although her father was a professor of Russian at Hanoi University and her mother worked at its medical center, the family struggled financially in the 1980s and 1990s.

Tran recalls her mother had to do several jobs during the day and night to earn the money to raise her three children.
