Australians are cutting household costs, but confusing bills, unused subscriptions and missed opportunities to switch providers are undermining their efforts, according to Finder’s latest research.
Drawing on its August and September 2026 Consumer Sentiment Trackers, Finder examines who carries the household administration burden, where money slips away and how Australians are managing rising expenses.
A third of households have reduced heating or cooling, while nearly a quarter have cancelled or downgraded streaming services. Yet half find their bills confusing, a third pay for subscriptions they do not use, and most people moving house miss the opportunity to shop around.
The report also reveals generational differences. Boomers report greater confidence in their bills and budgets but are less likely to switch providers. Younger Australians juggle more subscriptions and greater confusion, despite being more willing to leave.
Check out Finder’s insights into the financial pressures and administrative challenges shaping Australian household spending decisions.
