Leading Singapore-born loss adjuster Chan Hwee Seng has made a name for himself by foiling many high-cost fraudulent insurance claims in his vibrant 48-year career. But he is most proud of passing on the basic principles of integrity, honesty and the Crawford motto — ‘Top Quality, Promptly’ — to the next generation.

When Crawford loss adjuster Chan Hwee Seng got a call from a broker about a break-in at a jewellery shop at 4:30am, his response was immediate.

‘I grabbed my camera and went straight to the scene,’ recalls Chan, who at the time, was Managing Director of the company’s Singapore-based office. 

‘The police were on site, it was still dark. I called my people in later.’

In another instance, Chan and his family were preparing to visit relatives on the second day of the Chinese New Year holiday when an insurer called him to investigate a big fire at an industrial estate. Chan told his family to carry on with the visit while he attended to the job right away.
