China’s 2026 “Two Sessions”, the annual meetings of the National People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, marks the start of the 15th Five-Year Plan cycle, setting a clear direction for the country’s next phase of development.
Taking place at the end of March, it was a moment of heightened economic recalibration and geopolitical uncertainty.
Senior government leaders, regulators, and policymakers used the forum to set priorities not only for China’s domestic economy, but for its role as a stabilising force across Asia-Pacific supply chains and financial systems.
A roadmap for protection
The context matters. China is emerging from a period marked by property sector stress, slower growth, and demographic headwinds, while simultaneously accelerating its ambitions in advanced technologies and industrial self-reliance.
The signals coming out of the Two Sessions therefore reflect more than domestic policy direction; they provide a roadmap for how risk, capital and protection will evolve across the region. For insurers and brokers, the relevance extends well beyond China’s borders.
