Dion Oryzak, a qualified actuary, data analyst and entrepreneur applied industry experience to found consulting firms, Preddle in Australia and KibaTech in the US, which support insurers and insurtech start-ups with strategic and technical initiatives. Oryzak is the inaugural winner of the Victorian Insurance and Reinsurance Discussion Group (VIRDG)/ NIBA Mentoring Scholarship.

Dion Oryzak always had a passion for business and an aptitude for maths and analytics, so being an actuary was a fairly natural path.

‘As I’ve progressed through my career from IAG, Quantium and Finity, I’ve moved to smaller and smaller companies and each time have found it easier and easier to innovate,’ he says.

DRINKING FROM A FIRE HOSE

During his time at Finity, Oryzak founded and led the company’s software development division.

‘We developed a number of data-driven tools that became standard throughout the industry in their respective niches,’ he relates.
