Business Made Personal – Simon Lightbody

An unexpected language skill opened the door to insurance for Simon Lightbody. Decades later, the Rhodian Group CEO and Co-founder reflects on entrepreneurship, uncertainty and backing specialist underwriting talent.

“I tend to spend a lot of time in my own head, questioning every decision I make and second-guessing and analysing.”

That’s a candid admission from Simon Lightbody, CEO and Co-founder of Rhodian Group, whose career has been defined not by rigid planning but by a willingness to embrace opportunity when it appears.

A chance advantage — fluency in German — helped him secure his first role in the sector.

From there, his path took him through international and local markets, building expertise across underwriting, distribution and agency leadership.

Lightbody says he has never been someone driven by a fixed destination.

That mindset proved invaluable when he took on one of the biggest challenges of his professional life: launching specialist underwriting agency Miramar.
