As a child of Turkish migrants, growing up, Neşe Yasa Akay faced two choices. Either to continue her education and keep learning or to get married.

Neşe chose the former, and when explaining her decision, she says that for her, “the driver really becomes well, I need to be independent, I need to be able to do things without relying on anyone else. The saying knowledge is power absolutely resonated with me.”
